Driving
Chemical Technology

The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) integrates chemical science and engineering in its research on catalysis, polymerization, kinetics, reactor design and process design. LCT is part of the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University in Belgium and member of the Centre for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC) of Ghent University. LCT aims at research excellence and bottom-up innovation in the framework of technological, industrial, and societal challenges.

Experimental investigation of catalytic pyrolysis of plastic waste

Oğuzhan Akin received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Ghent University, where his research focused on catalytic pyrolysis of polyolefins to tune product selectivity toward monomers and enhance plastic circularity. His work emphasized catalyst modification strategies to improve product selectivity and catalyst stability, as well as investigating the influence of halogens in waste plastics on the pyrolysis process. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory for Chemical Technology, continuing his work on catalytic plastic pyrolysis while expanding his research into chemical recycling of halogenated polymers and the thermal degradation of PFAS compounds
