Driving
Chemical Technology

The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) integrates chemical science and engineering in its research on catalysis, polymerization, kinetics, reactor design and process design. LCT is part of the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University in Belgium and member of the Centre for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC) of Ghent University. LCT aims at research excellence and bottom-up innovation in the framework of technological, industrial, and societal challenges.

As senior scientist, Hilde Poelman is in charge of coordinating and organizing measurements and experimental campaigns along the needs of the LCT researchers. In addition to the research work, Dr. Poelman takes part in the Catalysis course for the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Material Science, with practical work and exercises.

Coming from the Department of Solid State Sciences of Ghent University, Dr. Poelman has a background in characterization of solid materials, which makes her well aware of possibilities and limitations of several techniques. Her main expertise comprises physicochemical characterization of materials, for catalytic or other applications. In this field, her particular interest goes to operando techniques, offering a look into the material in reaction, with direct connection to its performance. Overall, her work has led to over 100 publications.
