Driving
Chemical Technology

The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) integrates chemical science and engineering in its research on catalysis, polymerization, kinetics, reactor design and process design. LCT is part of the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University in Belgium and member of the Centre for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC) of Ghent University. LCT aims at research excellence and bottom-up innovation in the framework of technological, industrial, and societal challenges.

Valorization of side streams of vegetable oil processing into value-added components – from molecular catalysis to process design

After her graduation as chemical engineer at Ghent University, Alexandra started in 2015 her PhD at UGent under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. Joris Thybaut, prof. dr. ir. Jeriffa Declercq and dr. Benjamin Katryniok (UCCS, Lille, France). Her research focused on the valorization of waste streams into value-added components, and included an assistantship affiliated with the Laboratory for Chemical Technology and the research group Industrial Catalysis and Adsorption Technology. Alexandra successfully defended her PhD in October 2021. Afterwards she started working as an Innovation Grant Consultant at MOORE Grants & Incentives. In March 2023, Alexandra rejoined the Laboratory for Chemical Technology as a doctor-assistant.
