Chemical Technology

The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) integrates chemical science and engineering in its research on catalysis, polymerization, kinetics, reactor design and process design. LCT is part of the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University in Belgium and member of the Centre for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC) of Ghent University. LCT aims at research excellence and bottom-up innovation in the framework of technological, industrial, and societal challenges.

Alessandro obtained his Chemical Engineering degree and his M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Simón Bolívar University in Caracas - Venezuela. He was Assistant Professor at the same university and taught the process simulation course, as well as the unit operations, chemical plants design, and thermodynamics courses. The main focus of his research was the optimization of chemical processes, focusing on natural gas liquefaction. In December 2022, he joined the LCT and obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Dagmar D’hooge and Prof. Paul Van Steenberge. His research in the LCT focuses on the optimization and performance analysis of kinetic Monte Carlo algorithms and their application to polymerization processes.
