Driving
Chemical Technology

The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) integrates chemical science and engineering in its research on catalysis, polymerization, kinetics, reactor design and process design. LCT is part of the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University in Belgium and member of the Centre for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC) of Ghent University. LCT aims at research excellence and bottom-up innovation in the framework of technological, industrial, and societal challenges.

Lignin valorisation into value-added chemicals

Dr. Ana Bjelić is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Chemical Technology at Ghent University, since June 2020. She obtained her master's degree in chemical engineering in 2013 at the University of Belgrade. Afterwards she continued her PhD studies on the catalytic transformations of lignin-derived components and their reaction kinetics at the University of Ljubljana and obtained her PhD degree in 2018. During her PhD studies, Ana performed the experimental and kinetic modelling research on the hydrotreatment of lignin-derived components. The entire work for the PhD thesis has been done at the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, where she continued working on lignin valorisation as a postdoctoral researcher. At her current position, she is involved in the reductive lignin depolymerisation into value-added products and kinetics modelling.
